After a 5-year absence, we have decided to make a brief return
to Vienna. While we have experienced personal growth, the city
has remained largely unchanged.
During our 7 years on the island of Ven, we adopted a pescatarian diet,
consuming fish as our primary source of animal protein.
Additionally, we have chosen to abstain from alcohol, limit our
intake of sweets, and minimize our consumption of pasta and
bread.
This lifestyle change has not only is shaping our time on the
island of Ven but also continues to shape our approach to life
in Vienna. As a result, we have developed an objective and
analytical perspective on the city and its inhabitants.
In this distanced approached
we enjoy our visit immensely, avoiding the "hang overs" and
learned to appreciate and admire many aspects of Vienna.
In many ways, we feel like outsiders, taking all lightly, not
engaging, more akin to tourists from Mars (or the island of Ven)
than permanent residents.
